One card. Your own understanding.
After reading a passage, write down one idea in your own words. Keep the reasoning, materials, and source together, so you have somewhere to continue next time.

MetaSlip is a local-first card-based note app. Link related ideas, then bring the cards into a project to develop your writing.

A passage you read or an observation you make can be the start of your next card.

Connect related cards with bidirectional links. Read an idea in context, revisit an older note, and add a new connection as your understanding develops.

Gather related cards in one project. Organize questions, arguments, and drafts, then copy the arranged cards as Markdown to continue your writing.

Know where the ideas you collect are kept.

Writing and reading local notes work offline. Cloud backups, store services, and external links require an internet connection.
Use cloud backup and restore to transfer notes. Restoring replaces the current notes with the selected backup; it does not automatically merge changes from different devices. Export a database backup of your current notes before restoring.
You can export Markdown files and a SQLite database. Markdown is for using your content elsewhere; a database backup preserves the complete data for restoring your notes.
